Style Champion Saturday: How to go vintage without looking frumpy
So you want to go vintage, but where do you start, what is vintage, whats going to look good on me? Well first, vintage is a style of clothing that is at least 20 years old. If you are one of the lucky fashion chicas, like myself you have a fabulous mom and awesome aunties that you can borrow clothes and purses from. I love vintage, there is nothing better then going to your favorite thrift store and finding the perfect piece and paying next to nothing for it. But how do you wear that look with out it looking frumpy?
The 3 main things to remember are fit, fabric and details.
Fit- A lot of vintage pieces may have lost their shape or so from wash, wear, or whatever. Don't be afraid to spend the money to get something tailored. Also, something as simple as a belt can make all the difference in the world.
Fabric- Don't be afraid to feel your way through the racks. Tweed, leather, velvet and wool are some of the wonderful finds you can use to piece together your look. Just make sure you get it dry cleaned before your wear it.
Details- How many times have you heard it's all in the details, it's true. The littlest details like beading, stitching and even buttons can make the difference.
I love vintage, but it is very important to understand the era you are wearing, and to incorporate modern pieces, you don't want to look like you are wearing a costume. It's perfectly fine to go as light or as far with it, just have fun with it and don't forget to complete your look with hair and makeup.
Always your girl
